You can bury a lot of troubles digging in the dirt.

Shade Gardening

So, I got my orders from Bluestone and Wayside. The Bluestone plants were really nice; the Wayside plants, not so much. Why did I order from Wayside again this year? When will I ever learn? Most of what I ordered was for my shade garden, under the River Birch. I planted that today. I can't wait until it all fills in. I still have a few empty spots to fill.

I'm sorry for that faceless angel. I was going to try to fix it today, but I couldn't find her face. A missing face. How scary.

Planted:
Heuchera 'Frosted Violet'
Heuchera brizoides 'Bressingham Mix'
Astilbe 'Purple Lance'
Brunnera macrophylla 'Jack Frost'
Hosta 'Brim Cup'
Hosta 'Aureonebulosa'
Tricyrtis 'Taipei Silk'
Epimedium 'Pink Elf'

Still left to plant. So far. I'm sure I'm not finished shopping.

I started making plant markers. I'm not sure how I feel about them. I think they can detract from the beauty of a garden, but I don't want to forget names. I could do garden maps, but I haven't so far.

I still haven't figured this one out. I've narrowed it down though. I believe it's Cops, Ingenuity, or Widow's Veil. I can't find photos of them though. Anyone?

SDB Iris 'Little Showoff'

SDB Iris 'Lore'

I know I take a lot of Bleeding Heart photos, but I just can't resist.

I couldn't decide which focus I liked better.

Chicken love.

Sad news: Another koi dead. This time it was my favorite koi, Dottie. I am heartbroken about it. I'm going to have to buy an ugly heron decoy.

Going to Chattanooga for the weekend. It's so hard to leave my gardening! I'll be back at it Monday.

Wow, this is a fabulous gardening blog! It's so nice to see happy chickens in your garden. I live in Pittsburgh and spring is way behind NC, my hosta's are just coming up, no flowers on bleeding hearts yet.

Urban Cottager, thank you! That really makes me feel good to read.

Thank you, SimpleSue! I'm obviously crazy about my chickens. They add so much to my gardening and life.

Y'all made my day with your nice comments!

I'm sure I'm not finished shopping. When it comes to perennials who ever is?

I have to go multiple times to the nursery with my truck. I cheat though, I 'shop' for others.

Lovely bunch of Iris. There's one of my favorites, I only wish the blooms weren't so fleeting. With so many deer around they are especially appreciated.

So sad that you lost a chicken...not fair, you are already gardening? Wow, our ground is still partially frozen...although we might get into the 80s next week for temperatures!

Ah! I love your blog! It is so beautiful here! I love this post! I love your irises! They were one of my favourites growing up-my mom had them planted everywhere in every "flavor". And, if you can't find the angels face, that is OK. I have a headless Saint Francis and he lives inside with me(I was supposed to bury him upside down at the ex's house when he booted me out, but I couldn't leave him in that place of sadness and woe). I bought like that from a tag sale-no one wanted him. I decided that, being a Saint and all, he had heavenly holy head and didn't need and earthly one-same goes for your angel! A friend of mine and I always say, "Saint Francis sees with unseen eyes...".
I will be back!
Love,
merle

p.s.back in my married days, my mother in law and I found just a cement Saint Head at an anitque store and she quickly bought and we ran home to see if it was a match, but no, it was someone totally different. I said it was Saint Peter. His head sits on a small antique powder blue child's chair next to headless Saint Francis and they help each other out and they are just fine!

WiseAcre, there's always something else I need! I love irises so much too, and I was just thinking the same thing that I wish they bloomed longer. I do have a few rebloomers though, so I'll get to see them again this fall.

Bangchik and Kakdah, I love the way mulch looks. I have lots more mulching to do!

allaroundhorses, it was actually one of my fish I lost. I love them almost as much as I love my chickens! It's so frustrating to be waiting on spring now, I'm sure! You'll at least not have the horrible southern heat and humidity this summer!

Merle! I'm so glad you're here! I love your saint body and head story! I'm sure they make use of each other's attributes!

CatHerder, I think as long as night temperature doesn't get too low (like in 30s), it would be fine now.
